What you can expect during an individual therapy session

During an individual therapy session, you work one-on-one with a licensed mental health professional to address your specific mental health concerns. Here are some things that you can expect during an individual therapy session:

Confidentiality: The therapist will begin by reviewing the limits of confidentiality and discussing any legal or ethical obligations to report certain information.

Goal-setting: you and our therapist will work together to establish goals for therapy, which may include specific outcomes or general areas of focus.

Discussion of concerns: you will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns and experiences in a safe and non-judgmental environment. The therapist will listen actively and ask questions to gain a better understanding of your experiences.

Treatment planning: Based on your concerns and goals, the therapist will work with you to develop a treatment plan that outlines specific strategies and techniques to address your mental health concerns.

Skill-building: The therapist may introduce specific skills or techniques to help you manage your symptoms and work towards your goals. This might include techniques for managing anxiety, improving communication, or developing self-compassion.

Homework assignments: The therapist may assign homework to you between sessions to reinforce the skills and strategies learned in therapy. This might include practicing relaxation techniques, journaling, or completing specific exercises.

Closing: The therapist will typically end the session by summarizing what was discussed and highlighting any progress made during the session. We may also discuss any plans for the next session, including scheduling and homework assignments.
